The following motions have been received for the 2020 AGM:
Proposed by Stephen Mills, Patron and Life Member:
MOTION: That clause (c) of Rule 5 ‘Membership’ of the Constitution be revoked and replaced with the following:
(c)
HONORARY MEMBERS: Any person approved by the Executive may be admitted as a non-playing member of the Club on payment of an annual subscription as set by the Executive. Such members shall be known as Honorary Members and shall have no voting rights.
HONORARY VOTING MEMBERS: Any person approved by the Executive may be admitted as a non-playing voting member of the Club on payment of an annual subscription as set by the Executive. Such members shall be known as Honorary Voting Members and shall have voting rights to reflect their contribution to the Club.
Reason:
Northern United Hockey Club Inc. needs more assistance with the operation of the Club and wishes to engage with former members, supporters on the sidelines, member partners and families, inviting them to Club events, welcoming feedback and offers of assistance from time to time.
With regard to Honorary Voting Members this would allow the Executive to admit coaches, managers, umpires and others involved directly in helping the Club to achieve its objectives, and who are not playing or on the Executive, to have a say by way of voting at General Meetings.
These memberships may give the Club greater networking and word of mouth exposure in attracting new playing talent, administrators, sponsorships and other assistance.
It will also allow a fuller register of members and supporters to be retained and used to contact past or lapsed members to be made aware of reunions and events as they occur.
This membership would also entitle these members to any benefits currently in place or to be negotiated with sponsors and other entities involved with the Club.
It is important to keep former members engaged as their children can eventually join the junior or senior Club and add to our growth and administrative prospects. They are a great resource of the history and successes of Northern, and a guide to future achievement.
Proposed by Jono Mackey, Member and coach:
MOTION: That Rule 18 ‘Uniform and Colours’ of the Constitution be revoked and replaced with the following:
18. UNIFORM AND COLOURS
The official uniform of the Club shall be:-
a) Playing attire shall comprise of black, brown, gold and white.
b) Socks, black with a gold top.
The above uniform is to be worn at all matches and at all times when the Club is playing under its name unless otherwise directed by the Executive of the Club.
Reason:
There is a desire to keep the Club engaged with its history and traditions and retain in the playing uniforms the original colours worn from Technical College Old Boys through to Northern United Hockey Club Inc.
It is hoped players and officials will be consulted in terms of the playing uniform design.
Usually WHA require notification of a change in uniform.
Proposed by Sam French, President:
MOTION: That the word “Trustee” or “Trustees” be replaced throughout the Constitution with the word “Guardian” or “Guardians”.
Reason:
The Trusts Act 2019 comes into force in 2020. This Act puts much greater duties on trustees of any types of trust. The Trustees mentioned in the Constitution of the Club do not act as normal trustees do and the intention does not seem to have been to create a trust, as the Club has never parted with legal or equitable ownership of its investment funds. The current ‘Trustees’ are simply a check on the Executive’s power and use of the investments for the future. The word “Guardians” makes more sense with what the role actually entails, and should make it clearer that there is no trust intended or created.
